A head-on collision on the Prince Philip Parkway just before 9 p.m. Sunday night caused extensive damage to two vehicles but apparently did not cause any major injuries.
An SUV and a van slammed together in the middle of the intersection and severely flattened the engine compartment of one of them. Two ambulances were called to the scene and left with an unknown number of victims but injuries were not thought to be serious.
Officers with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary directed traffic around the scene until a tow-truck could remove the wrecks.
