Person dies in a vehicle fire near Deer Lake

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Deer Lake are investigating the death of person in a vehicle fire that occurred near the town on Monday.

A press release from the RCMP says they responded to the vehicle fire in a wooded area off the Trans-Canada Highway east of Deer Lake just before 2 p.m. 

The fire was extinguished without spreading beyond the vehicle.

The RCMP and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are investigating the matter as a sudden death of one person. The release did not make any reference to the sex or age of the person.

Police were assisted in the matter by provincial forestry personnel, the Deer Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Deer Lake Ground Search and Rescue.
