A vehicle fire in Topsail Saturday afternoon and an apparently related hit-and-run collision nearby had firefighters, police patrol officers and a K-9 unit busy in the area Saturday afternoon.
When The Telegram arrived on scene in the parking lot of Topsail Elementary school on Spruce Hill Road, Conception Bay South, firefighters were still spraying down a blackened car that appeared to have its rear bumper missing.
About a kilometre away on the main road in Topsail, police were looking into the hit-and-run collision that left parts of the vehicle that fled the scene on the road nearby, including one of the bumpers. The vehicle that was hit was pulled over to the side of the road.
It appears a car fled the scene of a hit-and-run collision on the main road and the driver abandoned the car in the school parking lot. It’s unknown how the car caught fire. An RNC K-9 team attempted to track the driver from the scene of the car fire but was unsuccessful.
There were no injuries.
More details will be released as they become available.
