The RCMP in Clarenville say a standoff at a home in the town has been "resolved safely" and police have reportedly left the scene of the incident on Huntley Drive.
Shortly after noon Sunday, the local RCMP detachment issued a warning to area residents to shelter in place because of an incident. The police had surrounded a house and remained all afternoon with an ambulance hovering nearby.
Besides the RCMP, members of the town's fire department also were on the scene.
A neighbour said it was believed a man had barricaded himself in the house and that there were no other occupants. The neighbour also said a police negotiator arrived later in the afternoon to coax the man out.
Just before 9:30 p.m., the RCMP Tweeted the situation had "been resolved safely" and that area residents could "resume normal activities."
