PORT UNION, N.L. — Iceberg Vodka hasn’t received any viable leads about its stolen iceberg water.

The water was stolen from a storage facility in Port Union earlier this month.

The only possible motive that makes sense, said Iceberg Vodka CEO David Meyers, is the thief or thieves thought it was vodka.

“What else is someone going to do with 30,000 litres of iceberg water?” he said Monday.

“That’s pure speculation. I’m just guessing, anyway.”

The media publicity over the theft since The Telegram first spoke with Meyers has been a blessing for promoting that the brand does indeed come from iceberg water, he said.

“As much as I was shocked and unhappy we lost that much water, there’s been a fair bit of interest from yourself and the rest of the press,” Meyers said.

“The coverage has been great.”

Meyers said he has had some concern the stolen water would be tampered with before being consumed, but there’s no word on where it went.

Bonavista RCMP first reported the theft in a news release, and are investigating the theft. The RCMP pegged the value of the iceberg water at between $9,000 and $12,000.

The theft occurred sometime between Feb. 8 and Feb. 11.

The water, which was not yet bottled, was taken from inside the building and was equivalent in volume to what it takes to fill a tractor-trailer tanker.
