ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Premier Andrew Furey has seen a big leap in his approval rating, but he’s still not as popular as Ontario Premier Doug Ford, according to the latest Angus Reid poll.

The poll, conducted at the end of November, found 53 per cent of those polled were favourable toward Furey's performance so far as premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. Another 27 per cent of those polled disapproved of Furey’s performance, while another 19 per cent of respondents were undecided.

The 53 per cent approval rating is up from 34 per cent in the last survey, which took place shortly after Furey was elected Liberal party leader and premier.

“Furey is approved of by 53 per cent of his constituency. This is up 19 points from last quarter, as more people have become acquainted with the new premier,” reads the Angus Reid report.

Ford is the next highest approved-of premier, with 55 per cent of respondents to the survey approving of his performance.

In the last poll released by Angus Reid during former premier Dwight Ball’s time in office, Ball had a 57 per cent approval rating.

The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from Nov. 24-30 among a representative, random sample of 5,003 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum. For comparison purposes only, a probability sample of this size would carry a margin of error of +/- 1.4 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, the institute said.
