ROCKY HARBOUR, N.L.
The Rocky Harbour RCMP are reminding owners of cabins that are remote or will be unoccupied during the upcoming winter months to make sure they are extra secure.
That includes taking some additional steps such as removing any valuable items like chainsaws, generators, personal electronics and firearms so that they are a less attractive target for thieves.
Storing ATVs and snowmobiles in sheds should be avoided. All windows and doors for cabins and outbuildings should be secured. The use of video surveillance and alarms along with frequently checking the property can also deter criminal activity, the RCMP notes.
Suspicious activity can be reported to the Rocky Harbour RCMP at 709-488-2222.
