'Project Bootstrap' results in large cocaine seizure on Newfoundland's northeast coast

HARE BAY, N.L. — The RCMP says "Project Bootstrap," an investigation by the force's Federal Serious and Organized Crime section and the Gander RCMP Detachment, assisted by Police Dog Services, resulted in a significant seizure of cocaine in the Dover/Hare Bay area earlier this week.

It is estimated the cocaine, which weighed in at 3.5 kilograms (or nearly eight pounds) has a street value of at least $1.4 million. 

On Monday, the police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Dover/Hare Bay on a truck with Ontario license plates. A search revealed 3.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the vehicle. Later, a search of a residence in the area resulted in the seizure of approximately $100,000 in cash.   

This RCMP says the nvestigation is continuing and that multiple arrests and charges are expected.
