Some people in the province might be feeling down these days about the state of the economy, but an anonymous Kijiji user was able to provide a bit of comic relief.

The Kijiji user, known only as Michael, posted the entire province of Newfoundland and Labrador for sale in a mock advertisement on the buy and sell website.

Calling it a “Distress Land Sale,” the post described the province as “aging and declining” but offering a “combination of rural charm, scenic vistas and an abundance of natural beauty.” The post went on to say that the province’s assets have “a few scratches and dents,” and “nonrenewable resources have been largely extracted.”

While the advertisement boasted the cheapest university in the country, it also noted it had the most expensive health care per capita in North America.

The comical post was taken down on Saturday because it was in violation of Kijiji’s policies, but on Friday it had already garnered thousands of views.

The Telegram requested an interview with the Kijiji "seller," but he responded in jest, saying he has entered into a “non-disclosure agreement with Jeff Bezos of Amazon and am thus prevented from discussing it publicly.”

The seller, known only as Michael, called it “exciting times” for the province.

“What I can say is Mr. Bezos is interested in pursuing independence for the province, renaming it Amazonia, and making it the global headquarters for his company.”

The Telegram is interested to find out how many offers Michael had on his distress land sale before agreeing to Amazon’s offer. Perhaps we can all look forward to even speedier online deliveries in the future.
