POINT MAY, N.L. — Rachel Cousins is preparing for a big move, but first she wants to celebrate the release of her upcoming full length recording.
“I’m planning a cross-island tour for this summer because I am moving away next year, so I just want to get myself out there as much as I can really,” she said.
Cousins said it has been a long process writing for the new album which she hopes to have available in stores in June. She is hoping to perform selections from the album during her tour starting in July or August.
“It’s been tedious,” she said. “There’s songs that we’ve been working on for almost two years now and we’re pulling them up again so we can look at it.”
Cousins said she has a large pool of material written to choose from for the project.
“I’m excited and I love all the songs so far, and I’m excited to see what we can do with the other ones,” she said.
The 17-year-old singer/song writer, who has family in Point May, told The Southern Gazette she is planning a move to Toronto.
She said it just makes sense.
“I’m going to go up where my publishing company is, and where my management is and work out of Toronto,” she explained.
Homecoming
Cousins will be back on the Burin Peninsula in March when she is set to perform a show in Point May, along with St. John’s based sibling band Conway.
She said given her family connections to the community, she is excited to be performing there again.
“I’ve been wanting to do this for years now,” Cousins said. “It’s been in the midst of planning for a few months now—I’m really glad I get to go out with all those great musicians and play a show out in that hall, cause my family is out there. A lot of them don’t get to come in a see me perform, so it will be nice to be able to go out to where everyone is and do a show.”
Jenna Maloney and Darcy Scott, as well as local guest performers will also take to the stage.
