Lewis Sooley, 28, of Heart's Delight was arrested Wednesday in relation to his alleged involvement in an attempted robbery at Powell’s Supermarket in Carbonear.

At approximately 8:25 a.m. Wednesday, Harbour Grace RCMP received a call about an attempted robbery.

A woman, wearing a helmet, entered the supermarket, approached a cashier and demanded money, police stated in a news release. She left the store empty-handed and got on the back of a motorcycle that was parked outside waiting.

Police located the motorcycle, which was seized and impounded, and the driver, Sooley, later that morning. He was arrested and brought before provincial court where he was charged with prohibited driving, resisting arrest, making threats and failing to comply with a court-ordered condition.

The investigation is continuing and Harbour Grace RCMP seeks assistance from the public in identifying the woman involved in the attempted robbery.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Harbour Grace RCMP at 709-596-5014 or contact Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (TIPS is 8477), by Secure Web Tips at www.nlcrimestoppers.com or by downloading the free and secure mobile app.
