Whitbourne RCMP is investigating a single-vehicle rollover collision on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) near Long Harbour Sunday that claimed the life of a 29-year-old man.
Just after midnight, police received a 911 call reporting the collision. Officers attended the scene and determined that the driver, who was trapped inside the car, died at the scene. He was removed from the vehicle by firefighters using the jaws of life.
A passenger was transported via ambulance to the clinic in Whitbourne and then onto the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The TCH was impassable for some time while the scene was investigated with the assistance of a collision analyst with RCMP Traffic Services.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is involved in the investigation.
