A man who looked to be carrying a gun set off alarm bells in Happy Valley-Goose Bay around noon on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP says three youth saw the man while walking in the area of the old weather station near the end of Abbott Drive.
He was described as being approximately five-feet, eight-inches tall and in his late 40s to early 50s. He was wearing a dark camouflage coat, dark pants and a black ball cap.
He was reportedly holding what seemed like a firearm and was last observed heading into a wooded area. The youth ran home and reported the incident to police.

It may be possible the man was travelling to or from an authorized hunting area by foot, police say.
