The RCMP laid more than 150 charges earlier this week during what was termed a strategic highway enforcement initiative on the Burin Peninsula.
From Tuesday to Thursday, RCMP Traffic Services East and officers with the Burin Peninsula RCMP took part in the initiative.
Enforcement took place along Route 210 and into Marystown and continued south along Route 220 from St. Lawrence to Winterland. Drivers were ticketed for speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt violations, equipment defects, and registration and insurance violations.
A news release states that seatbelt compliance, speeding, distracted driving and impaired driving remain primary contributing factors in fatal and serious injury collisions in Newfoundland and Labrador.
