RCMP Const. Levi Bennett, stationed at Whitbourne RCMP detachment, was charged Friday with multiple firearms offences stemming from an incident at his home on Nov. 5 which required a police response.

A news release states that at no time was any threat to the public identified.

Following an investigation overseen by SIRT-NL, the following charges have been laid: careless use of a firearm; two counts of unsafe storage of a firearm; and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

As per RCMP policy, the accused has been suspended with pay.

Bennett has been released from custody with multiple conditions and will appear in provincial court on Jan. 13.
