Police officers laid more than 80 charges for speeding, and vehicle registration and insurance violations, on Tuesday afternoon on the Trans-Canada Highway at Butterpot Park.

The operation was a joint enforcement initiative by the RNC and the RCMP.

Police charged six excessive speeders whose speeds ranged between 151 km/h and 173 km/h, police stated in a news release. All were given $520 tickets, their vehicles were impounded and their driver’s licences were suspended.

One other driver was found operating a vehicle without insurance, resulting in a $2,600 ticket. The vehicle was impounded.

Drivers who had their vehicles impounded will be responsible to pay the associated towing and impound fees.
