The provincial government announced Monday that former chief justice David Orsborn will conduct a statutory review of the province’s Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 (ATTIPA, 2015).

“ATIPPA, 2015 requires a statutory review every five years,” Justice Minister Andrew Parsons stated in a news release.

“I look forward to the review and any recommendations that may come as a result.”

Orsborn served on the bench from 1993 until his retirement on July 19.

The news release states that ATIPPA, 2015 increases government accountability by providing the public with the right of access to records, and protecting the privacy of individuals whose personal information is collected, used and disclosed by public bodies. The act first came into force in 2005, and was amended in 2012 and 2015.

The review is anticipated to take six months and begin in the fall.
