ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A crowd of about 40 supporters are gathered at Liberal headquarters of St. John's East incumbent Nick Whalen, who is on the edge of his seat with family and supporters gathered around him.
All local media outlets are also onsite.
The supporters yelled "whoo-hoo!" as the polls closed about a half an hour ago.
Whalen has been shouting out encouragement to other Liberal candidates as he watches the results on TV.

Supporters are well aware of the close race between Whalen and the NDP's Jack Harris, who held the seat before Whalen did.
"If we win, we're not going to win by much," one supporter was overheard to say.
Whalen's headquarters are in a strip mall on Stavanger Drive.
