The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is confirming there were guns found at Cape Spear on Monday.
At this time, information on the discovery is vague.
Const. James Cadigan, the RNC’s media relations officer said the Major Crime Unit is just starting its investigation and would like to hear from anyone in the community with knowledge surrounding the firearms to come forward.
The RNC were called to Cape Spear National Historic Site on Monday afternoon to investigate what was described as a suspicious property.
A large duffle bag like object with various remnants was visible, some similar to a pipe or shotgun barrel, on the hillside as RNC officers were awaiting their Tactical Rescue Unit (TRU) Team in addition to members of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department’s high angle rescue team to assist in the recovery of the items.
Also, the RNC’s marine unit searched the water’s edge.
No Parks Canada staff were on site while The Telegram was there.
