ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — As part of its ongoing investigation into Canada Post community mailbox break-ins in the metro region, police have released a photo of a suspect they believe to be responsible for the damage and theft.

The suspect is believed to be operating a grey Mazda 3 sedan with a loud muffler.

Last week, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary told The Telegram it would increase patrols in the areas around community mailboxes and asking nearby residents to report any suspicious people or activity in their neighbourhoods.

Craig Dyer, Canadian Union of Postal Workers St. John's chief shop steward, told the Telegram talk among workers speculated on identity theft or other motives, and that the thieves seem to be targeting outgoing mail and parcel compartments.
