Mount Pearl, N.L. — A report of oil in the Powers Pond area in Mount Pearl led to closure of part of the walking trail that runs through Donovans Industrial Park Friday evening.

Emergency cleanup crews responded to the area and worked to contain the oil, but no source of the contamination was identified as of Friday. Officials hope to determine where it came from by analyzing water samples.

Its not the first time oil has been spotted in the area. The City of Mount Pearl said in a news release that there were two previous incidents, but no petroleum concentrations were found in the areas that were tested. The oil, according to the release, likely occurred to naturally-occurring biological processes.
