Canadian Red Cross providing assistance

Seven people have been displaced by two unrelated house fires over the weekend in St. John's, according to a news release from the Canadian Red Cross on Sunday.

Canadian Red Cross volunteers are assisting all seven with emergency lodging, food and clothing purchases and some other basics.

The Red Cross said a woman and three children ranging in age from one to seven were displaced by a blaze Saturday evening that damaged a bungalow on Linegar Avenue in the Shea Heights neighborhood.

On Sunday, a woman and her two teenage daughters were forced out by a fire in the afternoon that occured in one home of an eight-unit townhouse on Blackwood Place.

No injuries were reported from either fire.

The news release says support delivered by Canadian Red Cross volunteers is now modified to respect physical distancing and other public health restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
