The St. John’s Regional fire department was called out to the fire on Hounsell Avenue just before 2 a.m. and found the small shed completely engulfed in flames being fanned by high winds.

Firefighters quickly laid an attack line and hosed down the structure but not before extensive damage had been done to the shed and its contents.

There were no injuries.

Platoon chief Robert Fowler of the SJRFD said this was but one of many calls answered by the department Sunday night and Monday morning with high winds causing power outages and tripping alarms in several buildings across the city.

Calls of downed wires also kept the department on the hop as they had to verify whether they were communication or electrical wires.
