This wasn’t your ordinary motor vehicle theft.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in St. John’s Monday night after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says he stole an ambulance from St. Clare’s Hospital.

Around 11 p.m., RNC officers responded to a report of a suspicious person checking ambulances in the hospital area. However, before the police arrived on the scene, the suspect had actually stolen one of the ambulances.

Police eventually stopped the stolen vehicle in downtown St. John’s, The man was taken into custody and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and two breaches of court orders.

He was held for court this morning.
