Smoke forces employees and customers out of east end Kent store

Employees and customers were forced out of the Kent building supplies store on Stavanger Drive Sunday afternoon when smoke was noticed inside the building.

Platoon chief Robert Fowler of the St. John’s Regional fire department says when they arrived on scene, there was hazy smoke in the greenhouse area. He added that it appeared the smoke may have originated in a rooftop ventilation unit and that firefighters were sent to the roof to check on all of the units.

The store has since reopened for normal business.

The Kent building supplies store on Stavanger Drive was briefly evacuated Sunday afternoon when smoke was discovered inside the building.
