Snow clearing in the metro St. John's area is temporarily suspended due to deteriorating conditions and reduced visibility.

St. John's, Mount Pearl, Paradise and Conception Bay South (C.B.S.) have all pulled their plows off the road, but will remain 'on standby' in cases of emergency.

Snowplow operators are on standby at various locations throughout St. John's, including hospitals, fire departments, and the Battery, according to a news release from the city.

"This will allow snow clearing equipment to assist first responders during emergency situations. Equipment will remain on standby until visibility improves and it is safe to resume snow clearing," reads the release.

In C.B.S., loaders have been positioned at fire departments. Mount Pearl has also placed its plows at fire stations. Paradise has stationed a plow at Paradise Fire Station No. 8 to assist in emergencies.

Residents are reminded that a state of emergency is in place, and all vehicles except emergency vehicles are prohibited from using streets in all of the above communities.
