Keep your eyes on the sky Sunday afternoon in Nova Scotia for a Snowbirds salute to Canadians doing their part to fight the spread of COVID-19.

The Canadian Forces aerobatic squadron will take off from 14 Wing Greenwood at about 2:30 p.m. (the times will depend on weather conditions).

The squadron of CT-114 Tutor jets will fly east along the coast of the Bay of Fundy and take a turn over Colchester County at about 2:50 p.m.. They will head south to Halifax for a 3 p.m. flyover and then head northwest back to Greenwood.

The Nova Scotia flyover will follow a morning flight from Greenwood to Fredericton, N.B., at about 10:30 a.m.

The mission, dubbed Operation Inspiration, will move west across Canada during the week.

Flyovers will occur at an elevation no lower than 500 feet above all obstacles, the Canadian Forces said in a news release.

“Every year, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds travel the country putting smiles on the faces of Canadians,” said Lt.-General Al Meinzinger, Commander Royal Canadian Air Force, in the release. “While Canadians may not be able to gather at air shows for now, we’re honoured to bring the Snowbirds team to Canadians and to pay special tribute to them.”

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds paused operations on March 20 to preserve the team’s health amid the pandemic.

"We encourage Canadians to observe the flyovers from the safety of their home and refrain from travelling to see the flyovers," the news release said. "Please maintain physical distancing practices that are keeping us all safe."
