A 31-year-old man charged in relation to a New Year’s Eve hit-and-run accident in St. John’s will make three separate court appearances on driving-related charges later this month.
Squires was arrested around 2 a.m. Tuesday, after police reportedly saw the SUV he was driving hit a pedestrian and two other vehicles on St. Clare Avenue before crashing into a tree on a nearby lawn. Squires is alleged to have abandoned his vehicle and run away, but was soon located in a backyard in the area by the RNC’s K-9 unit.
The pedestrian, a young woman, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
While he awaits his next court date on those charges, Squires will face a judge Jan. 14 on charges of dangerous driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a valid licence and resisting arrest, laid last August.
Squires will also be called in court on Jan. 17 to answer to two more charges of breaching court orders, after he allegedly failed to sign in at RNC headquarters twice weekly as he was required. Those charges were laid in November.
