Two people were sent to hospital following a house fire in St. John’s Wednesday night.
The man and woman were injured when a fire broke out in their kitchen at a home on Clearview Street in the Goulds at about 8 p.m. The two escaped from the smoke-filled home with the woman suffering smoke inhalation and the man suffering burns.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the home and quickly brought the fire under control but not before the kitchen area had been damaged by fire and smoke.
Three other people living in a basement apartment escaped uninjured.
All five of the home’s residents were displaced at least for the night.
The injuries to the two upstairs residents were not life-threatening.
