St. John’s city council unanimously approved the purchase of four new articulating rubber tire sidewalk plows at its regular meeting on Monday.
The bid approval note says the tender went to Holder Tractor Inc. for $726,352.54. It also says the city can order up to three additional plows at the same price within one year of awarding the tender.
Coun. Ian Froude said during the council meeting that the plows have salting, plowing and snowblowing capabilities, and will replace older equipment, thereby improving the reliability of sidewalk snowclearing because the new equipment should break down less often.
