Some St. John’s taxi companies and drivers are volunteering Tuesday to give free rides to the grocery store for seniors and people with disabilities.

The following companies will be providing this service:

  • Bugdens Taxi
  • City Wide Taxi
  • Gullivers
  • Independent Taxi
  • Jiffy Cabs
  • Newfound Cabs
  • Red and Yellow Cabs

In a news release, the city said there are a limited number of taxis available because this service is for supporting people who can't get to the store otherwise.

Pharmacies and all stores selling basic foods, such as supermarkets, convenience stores, and pharmacies are permitted to open Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in St. John’s.

This excludes bars, restaurants, fast food chains and outlets.

Vehicles are permitted to drive to and from the store to get urgent supplies. When travelling, motorists are asked to use extreme caution, carpool when possible and watch for pedestrians.
