St. John’s, N.L. —Suncor Energy is under investigation by the CNLOPB after it was issued a notice of non-compliance Tuesday, May 25.
The regulator says an unauthorized discharge of synthetic-based drilling mud was made from the Transocean Barents on April 27.

Drilling was permitted to resume May 3, but after Suncor provided an investigation report May 11, the CNLOPB issued the notice. The board will now investigate to see if the discharge should be considered a spill and decide what to do next.

If the operator is found to be non-compliant, it is possible that suspension or revocation of the operator’s authorization could be enforced
