One man taken to hospital, another taken into custody
A man was rushed to hospital and another man was taken into custody Friday afternoon as a result of a reported stabbing at a west-end St. John’s home.
It happened just before 1 p.m. at 374 Empire Avenue, across from Dominion Recycling Ltd. and Dicks and Company Basics store.
When The Telegram arrived at the scene shortly after 1 p.m., eight police cars were parked in a line in front of the single-story, light brown house. Several uniformed RNC officers had gathered in the driveway, along with two unknown civilian men, one dressed in shorts, the other in jeans.
According to Const. James Cadigan, police got the call about the alleged stabbing from a member of the public, who was, “in the area of a hospital.”
The extent of the man’s injuries was not known as of late Friday afternoon, while the man taken into custody had not been formally charged.
But it wasn’t the only time police were at that house Friday, Cadigan said.
Just before 10:30 a.m., RNC dispatch received a report of “a disturbance” there. When officers got there, the people inside the home would not talk to police and did not provide any information, Cadigan said.
Cadigan would not release any further information, as the police investigation is continuing.
