At least one woman was sent to hospital Friday night following an unusual three-vehicle collision in Mount Pearl.

The incident happened just before 10:30 p.m. when a woman driving an SUV apparently rear-ended a car at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Old Placentia Road. She then backed away from the collision and struck a taxi, overturning her vehicle in the process.

The older female driver was trapped in the overturned vehicle until first responders were able to get her out through the rear door and place her in an ambulance.

Two of the vehicles were extensively damaged while the third was left with moderate damage.

Roads were wet and it was snowing at the time.
