ST. JOHN’S, NL – Newfoundland and Labrador has its first Seniors’ Advocate.
Suzanne Brake, a social worker who has worked as director of the province's seniors and aging division, was announced to the role by Perry Trimper, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, on Wednesday
The Seniors’ Advocate Act was passed by the House of Assembly on Dec. 14, 2016 and came into effect on July 5 of this year.
Trimper said the Office of the Seniors' Advocate will work with seniors and other key stakeholders to identify, review, and analyze systemic issues; make independent recommendations; and promote awareness to the general public.
The newly established office is located in the Sir Brian Dunfield Building at 2 Canada Drive in St. John’s.
