MARYSTOWN, N.L.

Bara Jonson and Free, a Swedish country duo who recently spent time on the Burin Peninsula as part of the Live at Heart Newfoundland, Global Music Conference have created a musical tribute to the people of the region.

The duo is comprised of Jonas Tancred and Malin Östh.

Tancred, who fronts the duo, told The Southern Gazette he wrote the song Hello Newfoundland in October, shortly after returning to Sweden from Newfoundland and Labrador.

Jonson said it was the people of the province that inspired him to write the song.

"The warmth in how they welcomed us and made us feel at home,” he said.

People in attendance during an event held at St. Gabriel’s Hall on Monday, Dec. 10 by Vision 360, the organizing body behind the Live at Heart Newfoundland event, were able to hear the track in advance of its official release date.

Jonson said the duo appeared via video as the song was previewed at the hall.

“From what we could see and all the nice comments and greetings .. they loved it!” he said.

The song, which features Tale the Rapper, also of Sweden, will be available on YouTube on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The track will also be available through digital outlets on Friday, Dec. 14.

The song will be featured on the duo’s second English language album The Sky is the Limit.
