Take Back the Night events calling for an end to sexual violence against woman have traditionally involved marches through community streets, but those won’t happen this year.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Corner Brook Status of Women Council in Corner Brook and the Bay St. George Status of Women Council in Stephenville will hold different activities to mark the night on Friday.

In Corner Brook a socially distanced rally will take place at the Corner Brook City Hall parking lot at 7:30 p.m., with refreshments to follow.

In Stephenville a virtual event, with the theme Shine Light, Shine Bright, will be held at 8:30 p.m. on the Bay St. George Status of Women Council’s Facebook page.

People can participate and show their support by adding lights to their windows, walkways and entrances to their homes or businesses.

They can also share a message to survivors by taking a picture, sending an email or putting together a video to be included in the virtual event. Submission are due at noon Thursday and can be sent to [email protected].
