About 130 tenants have returned to their apartments after a fire forced them out on Thursday.
The fire was reported around 2 p.m. Thursday in the Rockcliffe Apartments building at 225 Blackmarsh Rd. in St. John's.
The fire was contained to one unit but sent smoke through the building.
In a news release issued Saturday morning, the Canadian Red Cross said tenants were permitted to return home Friday evening – all but one woman, whose apartment was the source of the fire.
The Canadian Red Cross is assisting her with emergency lodging, food, clothing and other support through the weekend.
The Red Cross had also covered the cost of emergency hotel lodging for one night for five other tenants who had nowhere else to stay until allowed home. All other tenants made temporary arrangements on their own with family, friends or through insurance.
