Three people were taken to hospital as the result of an accident on Goodridge Street in St. John’s Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses say a car slipped out of gear on Avalon Street, crossed the road and crashed into a front patio of a home on Goodridge Street injuring two occupants who were sitting on the patio at the time.

The owner of the car apparently chased after the vehicle and attempted to stop it before getting pinned between a wheel chair parking sign and the railing of a separate patio next door.

He was immediately tended to by first responders and rushed off to hospital by Eastern Health paramedics with undetermined injuries.

The two people who were sitting on the patio also received injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Three Eastern Health paramedic ambulance units responded to the scene, as well as a number of RNC vehicles and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.

The patio was completely destroyed in the incident.

Due to the number of emergency vehicles on the roadway, it was closed for nearly an hour as first responders tended the scene.

RNC spoke to family members and witnesses as they attempted to piece together what happened.
