Town of Conception Bay South, CUPE reach collective agreement

The Town of Conception Bay South and inked a new four-year collective agreement with its union employees of CUPE Local 3034 on Tuesday.

Under the new deal, employees will see wage increases of .5 per cent over the first year, one per cent in the third year and two percent in the final year.

Other highlights include: 

• Signing incentive of $500 for full-time employees and $250 for remaining employees

• Public Works staff to be scheduled on call during the snow clearing season (Nov. 1-April 15) and $45 per eight-hour shift;

• Ability for year-round, emergency, on-call for significant events, such as forecasted hurricanes or public safety issues

Mayor Terry French says the focus throughout negotiations was on ensuring a measure of financial stability for the Town and its taxpayers, while at the same acknowledging the hard work of our unionized employees and renewing a spirit of cooperation in labour relations.

For its part, local president Terri-Lynn Cooper said the union feels it’s “fair agreement for both parties.”
