MOUNT PEARL, N.L. — Police says she wasn’t in possession of a valid drivers licence.
What she did have was thousands of dollars in outstanding fines under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
On Wednesday, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers conducting traffic enforcement in Mount Pearl stopped a vehicle operated by a 39-year-old woman. It was soon determined she had in excess of $27,000 dollars in HTA fines,
She was charged with two counts of failure to comply with a court-order release document and was issued a summary offence ticket for driving without a valid driver’s license.
The woman was released on conditions to attend court at a later date and the vehicle was impounded.
A few hours later in Mount Pearl, RNC officers conducted another traffic safety attempted to stop on a suspect vehicle based on a previous offence. However, the vehicle didn’t stop and instead fled the scene.
The police did locate the vehicle a short time later and arrested a 23 year-old-male, who was charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
They also issued several Highway Traffic Act summary offence tickets, including driving while suspended, driving without insurance, driving without a seatbelt, failure to transfer ownership and defective vehicle equipment.
