Two children were taken to hospital Saturday afternoon following a collision on Topsail Road in St. John’s.

The incident happened at the entrance to McDonald’s as a car was making a left-hand turn into the parking lot and was struck on the side by an oncoming pickup. The crash spun the car around in the opposite direction and left both vehicles with extensive damage.

When the Telegram arrived on scene, a four-year-old boy was being placed on a stretcher as his six-year-old sister sat on a nearby lawn being comforted by onlookers and paramedics.

Both children were conscious and responding to emergency personnel.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident.
