CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH, N.L. — Two separate motor-vehicle collisions brought traffic to a standstill in both directions on Peacekeepers Way Sunday night.
The first crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. in the westbound lane just east of Fowler’s Road and reportedly involved three vehicles. That incident left one car in a snowbank on the side of the road and the other vehicles with undetermined damage.
There were no serious injuries in that crash.
As the Telegram was arriving on scene in the opposite lanes eastbound near 6 p.m., a car traveling slowly east through the area was rear-ended at high speed just metres away from the Telegram vehicle. The car that was rear-ended crashed into the median while the second vehicle ended up in the ditch at the side of the road.
First responders attending the first crash rushed across the road to assist the occupants of both vehicles. The car in the ditch contained two adults, an infant and two dogs and all were able to get out of the wreck with the assistance of an RNC officer.
None of the people in either vehicle appeared to have any serious injuries but several were checked on scene by paramedics.
An RNC officer was injured when one of the dogs bit his hand as he was trying to prevent the animal from running into traffic.
All four lanes of traffic were closed for a time for safety reasons.
Both incidents are under investigation.
