UPDATE: A 76-year old woman from Grand Falls-Windsor died at the scene of a two-vehicle head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Thorburn Lake on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Clarenville RCMP recieved the report of the collision at approximately 5:45 p.m.
The 76-year-old woman was a driver of one of the vehicles.
Two people in the other vehicle were injured and taken to Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville. A woman in that vehicle has been since released and a man was transported to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s and remains in stable condition.
Police Dog Services were called to the scene to assist with a search, as there were initial concerns that person may have been ejected from a vehicle. A search was completed, confirming there were no other occupants.
A collision analyst from RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and conducted an investigation.
Alcohol is not a factor in this crash and the investigation is continuing.
UPDATE: A 76-year-old woman has died as a result of a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Thorburn Lake. Two others have been injured.
The highway is once again open to traffic.
A brief RCMP media release indicated that another release will be prepared tomorrow morning.

The Trans-Canada Highway near Thorburn Lake is currently closed in both directions after a fatal accident.
One person is confirmed dead at this time.
Eastbound traffic is being re-routed through Port Blandford, and westbound traffic through Clarenville while the highway near Thorburn Lake remains closed.
A Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) collision analyst is en route and police dog services are currently on scene with Clarenville RCMP. The investigation is ongoing.
In a news release issued just after 7 p.m., RCMP spokesperson Jolene Garland said they appreciate the public's cooperation and will provide updates as they become available.
There is currently no estimated time for when the highway will reopen.
