An international Air Canada flight from another Canadian province made an unscheduled landing in St. John’s Sunday night due to an unruly passenger.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ahmed Khassim of Mississauga, ON, is alleged to have been intoxicated and disruptive during the flight, forcing the airplane’s crew to alert authorities in St. John’s.

On the ground, police arrested the man without incident and brought him to the city lockup where he was charged with causing a disturbance. The charge has since been altered to fall under the federal Aeronautics Act.

Khassim will appear in court this morning.

The flight was able to continue to its destination.

More to come.
