PARADISE, N.L. — An out-of-control pickup truck rolled over, cracked off a utility pole before landing upside-down in the Octagon Pond area of Topsail Road just after midnight Friday morning.

It appears the truck started skidding sideways near Sgt. Donald Lucas Drive before it overturned, hit the pole and came to rest about 200 metres away from where the pickup went out of control.

When the Telegram arrived on the scene, the 22-year-old male driver, who escaped the crash with minor injuries, was sitting in the rear of a car that had stopped nearby and he was being questioned by police. He was then taken to a waiting RNC cruiser where he was searched, taken into custody and later charged with impaired driving.

He was later released to appear in court at a later date.

The truck was extensively damaged and there appeared to be minor property damage, except for the utility pole.

More details will be provided as they become available.
