A 55-year-old Mount Pearl man is dead following a taxi-pedestrian collision in Mount Pearl just before 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
An emergency official on scene told The Telegram it appeared the man had slipped and fallen into the path of an oncoming taxi on Ruth Avenue near Third Street.
Firefighters and paramedics from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department arrived on scene minutes later and began to treat the victim on scene before he was taken away to hospital by Eastern Health ambulance.
RNC confirm the man died at the Health Sciences Center of injuries relating to the collision.
Traffic services investigators documented and photographed the scene before the road was reopened.
RNC accident investigators continue to investigate the cause of the collision and are asking residents on Ruth Avenue who may have CCTV systems on their property to contact police if they have any relevant footage.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the RNC at 729-8000.
No charges have been laid at this time.
