MARY'S HARBOUR, N.L. – A 41-year-old Pond Cove man has died from injuries sustained in an industrial accident at the Johnson Construction camp about 20 km south of Lodge Bay near Mary's Harbour on Highway 510.

Mary's Harbour Royal Newfoundland Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a news release issued late Friday afternoon that they responded to a report of an accident at the camp at around 9 a.m. Friday morning. 

Occupational Health and Safety were called and the investigation is ongoing.

A workplace fatality occurred at the Johnson’s Construction camp in Port Hope Simpson this morning, June 22.

The death was confirmed by Service NL in a statement to the Northern Pen.

The company is currently conducting upgrades to the Trans-Labrador Highway in the area.

“The impact of a workplace fatality is felt by family, friends and co-workers, and resonates with all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. We offer our deepest condolences to the family,” the statement reads.

Provincial Occupational Health and Safety officers and the RCMP have been sent to the scene.

Service NL said no further comment would be provided as an investigation is ongoing.
