UPDATED: RNC police dog Edge found safe, wanted man arrested

Shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary reported missing police service dog (PSD) Edge was found.

Police said PSD Edge was found in the same general area where he went missing on Friday around 4:30 p.m. When found Saturday morning, Edge was un-injured and in good spirits. 

"Edge will be taking the day with his handler who we expect will be giving him extra treats and belly rubs today," read an RNC news release.

RNC spokesperson Geoff Higdon said Edge was located by fellow police dog, Gunner. 

Earlier Saturday morning, at around 3 a.m., the wanted man Edge was pursuing was found and arrested in Holyrood.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary police service dog Edge is still missing.

Police are resuming their search this morning after suspending the search overnight. 

PSD Edge has been missing since 4:30 p.m. on Friday when he was dispatched in pursuit of wanted man, Chad Quilty, in the neighbourhood of Ashlen Crescent and Picco Drive in Paradise.

At around 3 a.m. Saturday in Holyrood, Quilty was found and arrested in a joint effort between RNC and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) is searching for their police service dog, Edge.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, police dog services were called to assist officers in locating someone in Paradise.

Police are currently searching the neighborhood and wooded area of Picco Drive and Ashlen Crescent in Paradise.Edge was deployed by his handler to pursue the fleeing individual, but the dog since gone missing.

The RNC is warning the public to not approach Edge, but instead contact police at 729-8000 or 911 if he is spotted.

Police released information via the RNC's social media channels about the the man police service dog (PSD) Edge was chasing. Chad Quilty, 28, is wanted for breaching court orders and was last seen in the Ashlen Crescent and Picco Drive area. Anyone with information on Quilty's whereabouts is asked to call police at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police also took to social media to ask residents in neighbourhoods around Seascape Drive and Ashlen Crescent in Paradise to check their properties for PSD Edge.
