UPDAYE The RNC is continuing to investigate an accident that occured just outside the city dump late Friday afternoon after a tractor-trailer carrying a load of metal flipped over.

The driver of the rig was transported to hospital to be checked after it overturned on East White Hills Road in St. John’s late Friday afternoon. Police said in a release this morning that there were no injuries.

The accident occurred in front of the entrance to the Robin Hood Bay landfill facility. The vehicle was carrying a load of crushed metal.

The top of the container was bulged out from the impact and the cab of the tractor-trailer sustained considerable damage. Mechanics were at the scene working on disassembling the cab from the trailer.

Holden’s Transport and Avalon Towing removed the cab from the scene and assisted in uprighting the trailer.

According to Oceanex, the tractor-trailer belongs to RMS Pope Trucking, which was transporting an Oceanex shipping container filled with a customer’s cargo.

The road was closed to east-bound traffic and no one was able to enter the area going towards Pleasantville and the Virginia Park, as the RNC had the road closed to traffic to conduct their investigation into the accident. Traffic heading into the Stavanger Drive area was being rerouted through the entrance to the landfill facility and back onto East White Hills Road.
